What is the Difference Between Hydro Dipping and Ordinary Painting?
Hydro dipping is a particular sort of water transfer printing. Recently, this process has gained popularity for its unique procedure and high-end finish.
The other standard methods would bind you with collecting a pricey kit, using a specific object to paint on. But hydro dipping can experiment with any three-dimensional object. Just be careful about this-
- Keeping distance from the electric metals or the objects which can damage by water.
- Avoiding painting on concrete.
5 Easy Steps to Hydro Dip with Acrylic Paint
Though it sounds intimidating, it’s nothing like that! All you need to have is to start it and be patient until you finish the whole process.
1. Basic Appliances
Getting suitable materials is the first thing to ensure a good outcome for the project. We have categorized some of the elements to make it a bit easier for you-
- Acrylic paint
- Any three- dimensional item
- A large container
- Toothpick or brush
2. Create a Thickened Water Base
The base is the foremost thing that works as a decider how your painting would look like. If it’s thin, it will not mix up properly. But as you are using it to paint on, the main design should float on the top.
Take a pot or jar, pour 2 to 3 cups of water, and let it boil on the stove. Then take a glass of cold water and mix ¼ cup of cornstarch in that and mix well. Now pour the glass of starch mixture into that jar and turn off the gas. Please wait until it cools down fully.
3. Prepare the Paint
As you’ve already made the water base thicker, the paint base should be thinner.
Get a mixing container and pour the paint into it. As you will use different acrylic colors, it’s clever to run a specific colored paint in a fixed box and so it won’t stick like spray paint. Now, stir them slowly, put a small amount of water, and mix it until you get the perfect consistency for your coloring.
4. Hold the Base into a Container
If you observe the watery part, it would be cold enough now to start. Pour the base gently into a large container. 1 or 2 inches of the bottom filled with base is an ideal quantity.
Then add a bit of the acrylic paint. Make sure to mix very slowly so that the color floats on the surface. Firstly, it would spread a bit, but it would stay on the top after a while, and you’ll get the perfect saturation.
Draw the structure you want on the paint through a toothbrush or toothpick.
5. Dip the Object
Now you are done with all the procedures, and it’s finally time to see the object decorated in your desired way!
Before dipping the item, put masking tape on the area you don’t want it to paint. Hold the upper surface of the object and dip it for a few seconds. Keep it for 30 minutes, let it dry, and get your aspired pattern in front of you.
Walking through this whole process is a thrilling and versatile experience at the same time. Though you get the best result immediately or after some more attempts, our above tips will work as a great companion in your journey. So, no matter how many difficulties you may face, make sure to give it a try!
